Osaka Prefectural Central Wholesale Market Installs Bloom Energy Server

March 9, 2015

Osaka, Japan (March 9, 2015) — Bloom Energy Japan Limited (Tokyo, Japan, Representative Director and CEO: Shigeki Miwa, hereafter "Bloom Energy Japan") today announced the installation of the "Bloom Energy Server," an innovative and clean electricity generation system, at the Osaka Prefectural Central Wholesale Market on March 9 in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. The Bloom Energy Server installed at Osaka Prefectural Central Wholesale Market can produce 1,200 kilowatts of power and provides 50% of the buildings' overall electricity needs.

The Bloom Energy Server is a breakthrough solid oxide fuel cell technology that generates clean electricity from multiple fuel sources such as city gas and biogas at over 60% efficiency*. Bloom Energy Servers have been installed in many locations that require uninterrupted power supply such as data centers, manufacturing operations, communications, and facilities with high energy loads including refrigeration and critical services in the U.S.A.

This is the first Bloom Energy Server installation in the Kansai region, and also the first commercialized SOFC generating system over 1MW in Japan. To contribute to the disaster preparedness policy of Osaka Prefecture, Bloom Energy Japan will supply electricity generated by Bloom Energy Servers to the important facilities of the Osaka Prefectural Central Wholesale Market. Osaka Prefecture and Bloom Energy Japan will also report on resulting carbon dioxide emission reductions as advanced model cases.
*Initial performance.
